This week’s zentangle challenge is to use a spiral for our string. When I think of spirals, I think of snails, shells, Slinkies, and the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain!
Antonia Gaudi, the famous Spanish architect behind the Sagrada Familia, was inspired by nature. He used motifs of trees, plants, flowers and even turtles. My guess is that he designed his spiral staircases after the fiddlehead.
Below is my zentangle take on the Sagrada Familia’s spiral staircases. Below that are photos we took when my husband and I visited in 2004. We visited the basilica again in 2009 and even more architectural wonders have been built! The basilica was started in 1882, is still under construction and is set to be completed in 2026, the 100-year anniversary of Gaudi’s death. Enjoy!
